Contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other papers re Weston's career in pediatrics and his research re links between nutrition and health, including a printed vitamin chart invented by Weston and used in exhibit, 11-15 June 1928, Minneapolis, Minn., for the American Medical Association. Includes typescript copies of published materials include presidential address to the South Carolina Medical Association, "What We May Do for the Infant and Child" published in The Journal of the S.C. Medical Association, 14 Apr. 1914; "Iodine in Nutrition," a paper published in American Journal of Public Health, July 1931; and "Report from Columbia Medical Society Committee on Adoptions, " ca. 1961, issued in support of South Carolina's proposed adoption law. Also contains 21 volumes, Mar. 1918-Dec. 1950, "physicians' visiting lists," providing names of patients and fees charged; volume, 21 Sept. 1923-30 Aug. 1939, listing children Weston vaccinated for smallpox, children showing immunity against diphtheria, and children treated for toxin-antitoxin; oversize scrapbook, 1929-1932, documenting Weston's work in nutrition and pediatrics [PU-5]; and volume, 1942-1950, account book listing names of patients, services rendered, and fees charged. Other materials include copy of marriage certificate, 16 June 1896, of William Weston and Elizabeth Vanderhorst; copy of contract, 1 Dec. 1902, for Weston to serve as local surgeon for Seaboard Air Lines Railway; and correspondence and other papers re the medical work of Drs. William Weston, Jr., and William Weston III, including letter, 23 Feb. 1975, San Antonio, Tex., W. Weston III to W. Weston, Jr., Columbia, S.C., enclosing notes re development of pediatrics in Columbia area prepared by William Weston III in conjunction with Joseph Ioor Waring. Also includes 2 items, 1975, proposed constitution and by-laws of the Colonel Thomas Taylor Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; undated typescript, "Some Experiences in Medicine," by W. Weston, Jr.; and photographs of family members.

Joseph Ioor Waring was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 4, 1897. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1917, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1921. Specializing in pediatrics, Dr. Waring interned at St. Francis Infirmary and Riverside Infirmary, both in Charleston. His residency was at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Tennessee.
